Community Outreach

 

NYCOM’s Student Government Association is dedicated to being involved in community outreach programs throughout the year.  The SGA plans Community Plunge events with the Glen Cove Boy’s and Girl’s Club, where osteopathic medical students will teach young children about different aspects of basic health and medicine.  The SGA also encourages osteopathic medical students to pursue community outreach opportunities outside of the NYCOM community on their own, and grants these students with T.O.U.C.H. hours that are recognized nationally.  The SGA believes that community outreach is an important way for ostepathic medical students to give back to their communities, and hopefully inspire others to pursue a career in health care.

In recognition of World AIDS Day on December 1st, we had invited Regine Dawes and her client, Scott Bishop, from the Long Island Association for AIDS Care (LIAAC) to come talk about his experiences living with HIV.
