Our Mission:

  • To maintain a working knowledge of the rules governing the NYCOM Student Government Association and all of its organizations
  • To review, clarify, and facilitate revision of the current SGA Constitution and Bylaws to more accurately reflect the mission and vision of the present Student Government Association
  • To communicate rules revisions and changes with the Student Government Association and student body

Our Vision:

To support the mission and vision of our Student Government Association, NYCOM and the osteopathic physician profession through diligent research, productive resolution writing, and effective communication to the NYCOM Community with the purpose of clarifying and improving the rules governing the SGA

As written in Resolution 1A2009: Constitutional Amendment for the Creation of a Standing Committee on Rules:

  • To ensure all current rules are being followed accordingly
  • To review current rules for accuracy
  • To provide suggestions for revision to the SGA General Council in the form of Resolutions when rules are not accurate or have been requested to be amended
  • To analyze requests to amend the rules
  • To determine at the request of the council to which standing committee a question at hand should be addressed

In short, the Rules Committee rocks! We work hard to ensure everyone within the SGA and the student body is working and carrying out their business to the advantage of the most students possible! We dot i’s, cross t’s, tackle the complex issues of operating and maintaining policies for a large and active student body, and we have some fun in the process! For anyone that sees themselves getting involved in hospital administration or group-practice management down the road, or wants to get involved in medical societies, organizations, or state/national associations, getting involved on the Rules Committee will provide you experience in organization oversight and policy formation. For those individuals interested in health policy who might get more active in the years to come, the Rules Committee can expose you to writing resolutions and policy briefs. We welcome individuals with little or no experience, as well as those with experience with parliamentarian procedure, legal background, bylaws/policies writing, or anyone who just wants to get involved.
